tv and reality become blurred again
This weekend assoc_tw and I were driving by the Hindu temple in Aurora. Outside were some sporting fellas playing cricket. As we passed I couldn't remember if I've ever actually seen people playing cricket live, or if I had only seen it on tv. Also, considering that we were watching through the car window, it probably didn't matter. Current Mood: complacent | | Monday, April 25th, 2005 | | 10:13 pm |
HUH?
On Friday night some girlfriends and I donned our western apparel and went to check out The Dan Whitaker Country Band (www.danwhitaker.com) at Hotti Biscotti in Chicago. In the car on the way there we had some rather frank conversations where I mentioned that I have been having a bit of a prudish reaction to my microbiology class. Recently we did class presentations on various bacteria and I commented that I have never before heard such a multitude of people use the word “vagina” with such disregard and lack of emotion. It seemed that every presentation pointed out a new particular microorganism that makes its home in the vaginal region. Everyone sympathized. Later, after the rockin show we headed to hang out with the band (and friends) at the apartment of Tim Anderson, the bass player. Despite Tim’s hospitality, this is where things went awry. Someone, I’m not sure who, mentioned something about bacteria, or germs or hand washing, or something similar. One of my friends, who was very inebriated at this point, exclaimed rather loudly “If you want to know about bacteria and vaginal discharge, ask Live_rabbit_fur, she knows all about that topic!!!” There was a momentary stunned silence in the crowd, and I started laughing so hard that I could not help but cry. Another friend tried to explain…”Um…rabbit…fur…is taking…a class…” but she was also laughing so hard it was difficult to understand. I will never know what impression of me was gained that night – nor do I want to know. Ironically, though, I think the whole experience has helped me to begin to forsake my overly modest ways. Long Awaited Return?
I recently realized I haven't updated this journal in quite some time. What actually made me think of it was having my grades posted for my lab. At the beginning of the year they asked us to write down a code name because there are rules about using your name or SS#, I guess. I wrote "Live_Rabbit_Fur", because the only nickname I have is "Ninja" and that seems so middle-school-nerd. Anyhow when I saw my T.A. to pick up my lab notebook, report, etc. he asked me if I remembered that my code name was "Little Rabbit Feet". Current Mood: complacentCurrent Music: A.M. Kevin McDonald
Memorial Day weekend cb_bigdrag and I went to visit Limeodor and Stutefish in Los Angeles. Highlights include 12 pairs of socks for $5, Skyy Melon, the MJT, Hello Kitty maxi pads, a celebrity sighting, chicken & waffles, Neck, "Meltdown" Bradley, and Joann vs. the Wisconsin Lutheran Church Group. It sounds contradictory, but the people we meet when we're out there seem so grounded. I feel at home except for my fashion-sense and that no one knows Steve Herbert. Take, for example, our celebrity sighting. When our group sat down for dinner at an Indian restaurant someone noticed that a comedy ensemble member was sitting at the table next to us. I meant to spy on him, maybe eavesdrop a little, but after sipping some Yeti I became engrossed in the conversation at our table and it completely slipped my mind. While we laughed and shared food he exited unnoticed. Sadly, our own lives were more interesting that the perceived adventures of a cable superstar and therefore I have no story to tell. 302 South
Saturday night cb_bigdrag and I had dinner at 302 West. I have never eaten there before and I was impressed. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was upscale without being elitist. We dressed up, ordered wine, and had conversation. There was a romantic drizzle outside. We were the couple that I always want to be. The experience was so good that we planned on "duking" the busboy ten bucks. Then, at the end of the meal, when rising from the table I twisted my ankle (I was wearing heels) and landed hard on the floor - on my hands and knees - with a loud THUMP. I may be exaggerating, but I think the chatter in the dining room came to a complete halt. The embarrassment hit me later only once the pain subsided. When some time has passed and I know I won't be recognized for the klutz I am, I would like to go there with limeodor and stutefish. It was much better, in my opinion, than the restaurant in Las Vegas. | | Monday, April 12th, 2004 | | 12:10 pm |
Easter Weekend
So this weekend Chris and I had a great time in Milwaukee. We stayed at a Hilton that included an indoor water-park. This part wasn't actually as fun as we expected. Having stayed at other hotels with indoor parks our expectations were perhaps a little high. Don't get me wrong, the hotel itself was very nice, the staff courteous, good bar, etc. It was just the pool that was a germ infested cesspool. The first event that shot my hygiene sensitivity into hyper-drive was witnessing (and smelling) the cleanup of a liquid feces disaster. The child was too old for diapers, but too little to have mastered diarrhea mitigation. Other disgusting events: a boy licking the handrails to the pool, many kids holding onto their crotches, and one kid telling his dad the water made him feel "itchy". Really, there is no amount of chlorine that could make me comfortable under the circumstances. Today Chris booked a hotel for The Fair weekend. It did NOT include a water-park. Otherwise, like I said we had a great time. Milwaukee seems like a great city and I always have fun when I'm with Chris. LRF Current Mood: chipper |
